Before you get started do a safe search. A safe search has no trace left behind to follow. Do not search on the internet yet, that’s a later step. A search that no body but you knows what you are doing, except Co-Inventors. Go into department stores check for similar products. Go into as many stores related to your Invention and search. Is it a new fishing lure? Go into fishing tackle stores. Check new magazines and if you have some old ones check them.
After a safe search, if you do not find that your Invention already exist, then finish step 1 before searching the internet. Later in the book I give good internet locations to search.
I own many websites that have search databases. Every evening I look at all the search terms and you can bet all the major search engines owners are checking theirs also.
An example of how quick you can lose your Invention by searching the internet before you have protected it is; At one time the “Beer Hat” did not exist. What if you searched for “a hat that holds beer and allows gravity flow drinking while at a sports arena”? Do you think people with money looking for a good Invention would not pick up on this? They may not, but is it worth jeopardizing your Invention? So search the patent office and internet after you complete step 1.
